Time To Find An Apprentice

Foundation set to use proceeds from MY13 to fund a yearlong apprenticeship

The Huddersfield Town Foundation will use proceeds from last Tuesday’s successful Manufactured Yorkshire 2013 event to place one lucky apprentice in work at a local worthy business.

Town’s Charity joined forces with Hillrich and John Walton (Machine Tools) Ltd at the event, which was attended by over 300 people, to highlight the importance of apprenticeships.

Part of the proceeds from the Stadium held event will be used to give a person between the ages of 16 and 18 a year long apprenticeship. The Foundation will use the guidance and expertise of Club Partner Kirklees College to help source an apprentice ready to start work in August/September.

The Foundation was one of over 40 exhibitors at Tuesday’s event, which began at 9am. The exhibition hall was held in the Revell Ward Suite and allowed delegates to network and make contacts within the industry.

Meanwhile, in the Chadwick Lawrence Suite, an Export Panel, including Town’s Commercial Director Sean Jarvis, kicked off a full day of seminars. Seminar topics included ‘The Future of Manufacturing’, ‘Skills for growth in Manufacturing’, ‘Becoming supply chain ready’ and ‘Funding for future growth’.

Furthermore, a Business Clinic was held in the Boardroom by specialist companies from Yorkshire.

The Foundation’s Corporate Fundraising Office Mandy Taylor commented:

“The 14 May has been a very significant date in our charity calendar and one which I personally had very much looked forward to whilst watching the plans come together for MY’13 at the Stadium.

“Both Danny Matharu and Mark Young, along with the Town Foundation had a very clear vision for the outcome of this innovative event and I am delighted to say that this was achieved at all levels.

“As soon as the doors opened, The Town Foundation Stand in the exhibition hall welcomed a steady flow of delegates, all of whom were keen to learn more about the initiative to fund an apprentice for a year, within a worthy business, completely free of charge.

“Many businesses have now applied however there is still time to register and I will welcome any email enquiries to: Mandy.Taylor@htafc.com. Our next step, in partnership with Kirklees College, will be to interview a selected number of potential apprentices and ultimately after an interview process match one to the business which will give them the very best experience, training and potential for the future”

John Walton (Machine Tools) Ltd Director Mark Young said:

“The event surpassed my expectations for a first attempt – top notch exhibitors, heavyweight speakers and a broad spread of delegates. Our company has generated several valuable leads, form new and existing customers – we could not have asked for more. That alone is fantastic, but bolt on the networking with potential suppliers, this has been a real value for money exercise.

“Due to the unexpected attendance, and the footfall to our stand, I was unable to visit many of the other exhibitors, nor attend any of the seminars, but the feedback form people who visited our stand was all excellent on both details.

“I would have no hesitation in returning as an exhibitor to MY14, as well as being part of the events team.”
