Huddersfield Town Takes 800 Local Kids To Old Trafford Final

In May 2011, Huddersfield Town qualified for the npower League 1 Play-Off Final at Manchester United’s Old Trafford Stadium.

Thanks to Chairman Dean Hoyle’s ambition and the unbelievable generosity of businesses and individuals across the region, over 800 local schoolchildren made the journey along the M62 to watch the Terriers take on Peterborough United that would not have otherwise had the opportunity.

Upon the team reaching the showpiece event, Dean decided to start a fundraising drive to give local youngsters the chance to watch the biggest day in Huddersfield Town’s recent history. He made the first cash donation himself, but after asking for support from the local area the Club was overwhelmed by the response – with £25,000 eventually being donated in just 48 hours.

In total 14 local schools and charities received free tickets and travel to the game thanks to generous donations from over 40 local businesses, individuals and Town supporters – meaning 800 local children got an experience of a lifetime.

They even had a treat when the tickets arrived – they were hand delivered by Huddersfield Town legend Andy Booth!
