Club Legend Presents Trophy To Kirklees College Team

Huddersfield Town club legend Andy Booth presented the Kirklees College Town Foundation team with their trophy for winning the ECFA Yorkshire and Humber Cat 2B League title on Wednesday afternoon.

The Kirklees College team – that plays under the umbrella of the Town Foundation – were presented with the trophy by Andy Booth following their end of season friendly held on the 3G pitch at Town’s PPG Canalside training facility.

Students got the chance to show off their skills to one of the Huddersfield Town Scout’s, who gave them some wise words of career advice before some of the older students graduated the course; with most going on to continue studying at University.

Led by former Town player Kevin Donovan, the side won 11 of its 12 league games over the course of the season having only suffered defeat to Pontefract College.

The team is made up of students studying at Kirklees College which sees them train three times a week between their college studies and then playing competitive matches on a Wednesday afternoon.

Linking up with the Club’s charity, The Town Foundation, means the side benefits from playing in full Huddersfield Town kit, regular use of the great facilities at Leeds Road, opportunities to gain coaching experience with the Foundation and the chance to complete their FA Level 1 coaching badge.

The Foundation’s Head of Education, Katie Suttron said:

“Winning the league was a great achievement by everyone involved in the course and we hope that the involvement from the Town Foundation can help the course grow from strength to strength for the benefit of the student.

“I would like to thank Andy Booth for coming down to present them with the trophy and also thank all the students & staff at Kirklees College for all their hard work”

The Kirklees College and Town Foundation side’s First Team Coach commented:

“We are hoping to have even more teams next year and we’ll then decide how many teams we will have dependent on the quality. Now we have the opportunity to decide whether we move up to the Premier League where we will face some of the bigger colleges.

“The link with the Foundation has given the students lots of opportunities to go out into schools and do coaching and get put through their Level One coaching badge. It also gives them the opportunity to have a clear pathway into potential coaching roles with the Foundation.

“We’ve got great facilities at Leeds Road; we’ve got the indoor barn and the 4g AstroTurf. There is a lot of good selling points and having won the league, we are hoping to go onto bigger and better things next year.”

The next trial to be in with the chance of securing your place on the male or female teams takes place on Wednesday 27 June 2018 from 4-6pm at Leeds Road Playing Fields.
