SOUTHERN TERRIERS ON TRACK TO HIT £10,000 TOWN FOUNDATION FUNDRAISING TARGET

Earlier this year, the Huddersfield Town supporters group known as the Southern Terriers were set a fundraising challenge in aid of the Huddersfield Town Foundation.

The group was tasked with raising £10,000 for the Foundation and we’re delighted to reveal that they’re roughly three quarters of the way there!

Founded during the 2014/15 season, the Southern Terriers’ aim is to give Town fans living in the south of the country the chance to network and develop friendships all the while bonded by their love of Huddersfield Town.

They do this by organising pre-match events and meetups, as well as organising group travel to Town matches and supporting the Club’s corporate events where they can.

Many of their members had previously taken part in Club fundraising events such as the Walk for Pounds and Pedal for Pounds, so they decided that creating a fundraising campaign of their own would be the natural next step!

Since its launch prior to the Sky Bet Championship match at Fulham in February 2020, the fundraising challenge has been taken on by a number of the group’s members.

Examples include Nathan Hosker’s Brave the shave – a perfect lockdown haircut, Glenys Furness’ giving up of sweets and chocolates for Lent and John Ellam’s ‘Lose the Tyre’ weight loss challenge.

The group as a whole have also completed several further initiatives, including the sale of 100 Southern Terriers branded scarves in the HTAFC Megastore. This alone raised a fantastic £500.

In addition to this, they have held bucket collections and members have donated the use of their match day tickets and stadium boxes.

They also have an auction you can currently take part in, with Collin Quaner kindly donating one of his last match issued shirts from the match against Preston North End on 4 July 2020 to be raffled off.

On the fundraising campaign Paul Hollas, co-leader of the Southern Terriers commented:

“All of our members have close ties to Huddersfield and the surrounding areas, and we know full well the fantastic work the Town Foundation does in support of children and young people in the area.

“When we were set the fundraising challenge earlier in the year, it was one we gladly accepted!”

Town Foundation Chief Executive Siobhan Atkinson added:

“The way that the Southern Terriers have embraced the fundraising challenge is just brilliant. To have the backing from a supporters’ group is really unique for a Club’s Foundation.

“It clearly demonstrates that the club and its supporters are all fully committed to ensuring the Charity can deliver such a wide range of projects in the local community. The funds have really helped at a time when other fundraising activities have been hampered by the COVID situation. I’m really humbled by how much the Southern Terriers have done for us and we look forward to continuing to work in partnership.”
