INAUGURAL FOUNDATION DEGREE COHORT KICKSTART 2020/21 ACADEMIC YEAR!

The Huddersfield Town Foundation’s first intake of undergraduate students have kickstarted their two-year course with a week of induction activities!

Six students have enrolled onto the Foundation degree in Community Football Coaching and Development, delivered in partnership with the EFL Trust and University of South Wales.

On completion of the second year, students will be encouraged to undertake a third year of study to achieve a full undergraduate degree in Football Coaching, Development and Administration.

During the induction week the students have had a chance to get to know each other and their education mentors, with socially distanced sessions being held at the John Smith’s Stadium.

They have also had briefings from other Town Foundation staff and virtually met their course leader from USW, who was able to familiarise them with the online learning environment they will be using in the coming weeks and months.

As students of USW, they will have access to the University’s online library, academic support team and career support services.

The intake will also be able to visit their state-of-the-art sports complex known as the USW Sports Park to undertake practical assessments.

The Sports Park is often used as a training base by professional and international sports teams, boasting an indoor FIFA standard 3G football pitch, multiple outdoor pitches, strength and conditioning suites and much more.

Throughout the two-year course emphasis will be placed on a ‘blended learning’ approach, with students required to volunteer with Town Foundation staff on a range of projects.

Students will also undertake a range of modules, including ‘an introduction to sports science for football’, ‘youth football coaching’ and ‘project operations management’.

The degree programme is the Town Foundation’s latest commitment to the education of young people in Kirklees.

Both Primary and Secondary Schools benefit from the intervention of Town Foundation coaches, and we have also partnered with Calderdale College to launch a new Female Football Academy for 16-18-year olds.

If the degree programme is potentially something of interest to you for the 2021/22 academic year, please contact brad.fox@htafcfoundation.com in the first instance and he will be able to provide more information!
