RE-ENGAGE PARTNER SCHOOLS RECEIVE FREE BOOKS FOR USE IN LESSONS!

Eight local schools have recently received a delivery of brand-new, free books as part of their partnership with the Huddersfield Town Foundation!

Children at both primary and secondary age have taken part in the Re-Engage programme, facilitated by the Town Foundation with funding from the National Lottery.

The initiative ran for five months from October, with a Town Foundation coach working in each school one day a week.

Sessions focused on re-engaging the children in Education and their social groups, with many not being in a formal education environment for six months because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Foundation coaches worked with school staff to identify those children who were most vulnerable and/or struggling most to return to the ‘normality’ of being in a classroom.

Sessions took place in both a 1:1 mentoring and group work format, using practical PSHE to support them in opening up and discussing their emotions. They also looked to build resilience and manage mental health.

Furthermore, Foundation staff provided English and Maths interventions in line with the National Curriculum for those that may have fallen behind their peers.

Finally, the Foundation also helped facilitate after school sports clubs for the Re-Engage partner schools, ensuring that the children get some all-important exercise to round off the day.

The books have been delivered to the schools as a reward to the students and teachers for all of their hard work, and Foundation staff look forward to hearing about how the children get on with them.

As the registered charity of Huddersfield Town, the Town Foundation carries out extensive work in local schools.

It delivers the Premier League Primary Stars programme in primary schools and its own bespoke Steps to Success offer in secondary schools.

Both can be completely tailored to your school’s needs and are actively recruiting new partner schools for the 2021/22 academic year.
