FREE PROVISION SEES 13-16 YEAR OLDS LEARN NEW SKILLS IN SUMMER HOLIDAYS!

The Huddersfield Town Foundation recently delivered a week’s worth of free activities for 13-16 year olds with funding from Kirklees Council!

This took place at two locations covering north and south Kirklees: Soothill Community Centre in Batley and the DRAM Sport and Community Centre in Huddersfield.

Run in partnership with the Dawatal Islam Mosque, the Batley offer saw boys and girls take part in a range of sports including football, rounders and dodgeball.

They also took part in social action projects to the benefit of the local community, including litter picking and cleaning the centre’s sports pitch.

Young people attending the DRAM Centre provision took part in workshops from organisations such as the Kirklees Democracy Commission and Young Gamers and Gamblers Education Trust.

They also took part in a range of sports, with some of the group also volunteering with the Foundation ahead of Town’s home Sky Bet Championship fixture against Preston North End!

On the impact of the Batley offer Habib Dadhiwala, a volunteer at Dawatal Islam Mosque commented:

“The Soothill summer camp gave our young people the opportunity to do something different within their own community, make new friendships and try out new activities.

“This new initiative enhanced their social, physical and emotional well-being and is the start of something we look to continue in the future.

A big thank you to the Huddersfield Town Foundation’s passionate staff, the Mosque volunteers and of course the children and their parents for working hard to provide this excellent initiative.”

As schools begin to return, the Town Foundation will continue to offer free football sessions for this age group through the Premier League Kicks programme.

Girls can come along to Leeds Road Sports Complex between 5pm and 7pm on a Monday evening, whilst we also run a disability session from 6pm-7pm every Thursday.

From Friday 17 September, the popular Friday evening session from 7pm-9pm for 14-18 year olds will return.

Should you wish to attend any of these sessions, please email enquiries@htafcfoundation.com and you will be sent full details in due course.
