JASON MCCARTNEY MP SEES SUMMER CAMPS FIRST HAND!

The Huddersfield Town Foundation was delighted to welcome Jason McCartney, MP for Colne Valley, to its summer football camps yesterday!

McCartney, a keen Town supporter and season card holder, visited the Foundation’s activities for 5-11 year olds at Leeds Road Sports Complex.

After being introduced to coaching and management staff it was time to see the delivery in action with the theme of the day being shooting.

There was also time for the children to ask questions about Jason’s work as an MP before taking penalties against him!

The Town Foundation operates within Jason’s constituency on several programmes, including Premier League Primary Stars at St John’s Junior & Infant School in Golcar and Premier League Kicks at Phoenix Youth Club in Holmfirth.

Speaking about his visit, Jason said:

“I really enjoyed an inspiring visit to the Town Foundation Summer Football Camps at the Leeds Road Sports Complex. I was hugely impressed by the enthusiasm and professionalism of the amazing coaches; the children were having so much fun whilst making new friends.

“Having taken part on some of the fund-raising bike rides, the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Sponsored Walk and one of the Big Sleep Outs helping to raise funds for the Foundation, it was lovely to see how the money raised is being spent in such a good way.

“I’m pleased to see the Foundation partnering with the Government funded Holiday Activities and Food programme to provide free places for youngsters on free school meals. They also receive a hot lunch daily.”

The Foundation is proud to work in partnership with the UK Government’s Department for Education to fund 20 places free of charge for young people in receipt of free school meals every week of the holidays at Leeds Road Sports Complex.

This is known as the Holiday Activities and Food programme (HAF) and the money is distributed via Kirklees Council, with children on these places also receiving a hot lunch daily.

A total of 20 places have also been funded via the HAF programme across two weeks at St John Fisher Academy in Dewsbury.

Spaces still remain on the Foundation’s football camp at St John Fisher Academy next week, priced at just £60 for five days!
