HIV TESTING AT THE COMMUNITY HUB ON THURSDAY 8 FEBRUARY

Huddersfield Town Foundation will be supporting The Brunswick Centre by hosting a free HIV testing station at the Community Hub at the John Smith’s Stadium on Thursday 8 February as part of National HIV Testing Week.

National HIV Testing Week, which runs from Monday 5 to Sunday 11 February 2024, is a campaign to promote regular testing in England and not just the demographics commonly associated with the subject matter.

Whilst there are some communities at risk of HIV, the latest data shows an increase in the male heterosexual population. Regular testing helps to reduce the number of people living with undiagnosed HIV and those diagnosed late.

This year, Town’s Foundation will be supporting The Brunswick Centre during National HIV Testing Week by hosting them in the Community Hub on Thursday 8 February from 3.30pm until 6pm.

This is a great opportunity to drop in and receive a free test, or to speak to a specialist for guidance.

The Brunswick Centre want to increase awareness of HIV and how, if caught early enough and given the correct medication, people can go on to live relatively unaffected lives.

At Huddersfield Town Foundation and Huddersfield Town AFC, we want everyone to feel welcome and included in all of our activities, groups, match days and spaces. Through Terriers Together, we actively promote equality and celebrate diversity and are proud to help those in our communities who may need further support and representation.

Testing for HIV is quick, free, confidential, and easy to do. An HIV test involves a finger prick test (taking a small amount of blood from the top of your finger) and takes five minutes for results to come through.

The Foundation’s Chief Executive Officer Siobhan Atkinson commented:

“It is great to support The Brunswick Centre and spotlight their work during HIV Testing Week.

“We are delighted to help battle against the stigma surrounding HIV and as a charity, we are always keen to support those in the community. Health and Healthy Behaviours form a key part of our work as an organisation and creating partnerships is vital.

“I hope the pop-up HIV Testing centre at the Community Hub proves to be useful for those who would like to drop in.”
