01 Aug Huddersfield Town fan walking from hometown in Ireland to Accu Stadium for season opener
Huddersfield Town fan Conor Walsh will be among the thousands of supporters attending The Terriers’ Sky Bet League One opening fixture tomorrow against Leyton Orient, but his journey to the game will be unlike any other.
Conor is walking from his hometown of Edenderry, Ireland to help raise funds for Huddersfield Town Foundation and Pieta, a suicide and self-harm prevention charity.
Conor is currently on the final stretch of his 400-kilometre journey, after travelling for four days across Ireland and England and is due to arrive at the Accu Stadium prior to Town’s 3pm kick-off tomorrow.
There is plenty of motivation for Connor to raise funds for the Foundation and Pieta, with both charities being close to his heart.
“I chose the Huddersfield Town Foundation as my UK charity because it’s directly tied to the club I love.” Conor said.
“The Foundation’s work supporting mental health, inclusion, and wellbeing means a lot to me, especially when paired with my Irish charity, Pieta. This walk is as much for those charities as it is for myself.”
Conor fell in love with the club after watching the Terriers secure promotion to the Premier League, with the play-off final being a memory forever etched in Conor’s and fellow Town fans’ memories.
“I was watching the Championship Playoff Final and something just clicked. The vibrance of that away kit, Dean Hoyle too nervous to watch the penalties, and the eruption from the supporters when Schindler scored,
“It wasn’t just about football, it was an underdog story, which deeply resonated with me. That’s what being a Town fan means to me. And that’s the spirit I’m taking with me on this walk.”
