Richard is a recently retired senior finance executive with extensive commercial and financial leadership experience across audit, governance, risk management and financial control. A Chartered Accountant, he trained with Grant Thornton before becoming a Senior Audit Manager at BDO Binder Hamlyn in Leeds. He later moved into industry, holding senior finance roles at Gartland, Whalley and Barker plc and, from 2002, serving for more than 20 years as Group Financial Controller at Marshalls plc, the leading UK manufacturer of sustainable solutions for the built environment.
Alongside his professional career, Richard has been actively involved in cricket for over 50 years as a player, coach, administrator, umpire and club official with Copley Cricket Club. As Chairman, he helped transform the club into a community-focused organisation, securing significant funding to develop facilities and expand opportunities for young people, women and girls. Currently serving as Treasurer and Trustee, he remains committed to community engagement. A lifelong Huddersfield Town supporter and season ticket holder for nearly 25 years, Richard is delighted to serve as a Trustee of the Foundation, where he hopes to use his skills and experience to support its continued growth and impact.
