Saturday 4 April 2026 marked a memorable day for Huddersfield Town Foundation, as eight members of its Parkinson’s Walking Football programme proudly represented the club and the Kirklees Parkinson’s community at the 2026 Sport Parkinson’s Walking Football Tournament, held at St George’s Park.
St George’s Park is the home base for the England national teams, making the opportunity to play there a truly special occasion. The Foundation’s players had the rare honour of competing on the iconic Sir Alf Ramsay Pitch, an unforgettable experience for any football supporter.
With 24 teams in attendance, the tournament has grown to become the world’s largest Walking Football event for people living with Parkinson’s. Organised by Sport Parkinson’s, the event celebrates the positive impact of physical activity, inclusion and community connection through football.
The Huddersfield Town Foundation team demonstrated outstanding commitment, teamwork and resilience throughout the day, embodying the spirit and values of both the Foundation and the wider Parkinson’s community.
Huddersfield Town Foundation remains committed to using the power of football to support people living with Parkinson’s across Kirklees, creating safe and inclusive opportunities where individuals can GROW, THRIVE and BELONG.
Matthew Crookes, Physical Health Manager at Huddersfield Town Foundation, said:
“We are incredibly proud of every one of our players for representing Huddersfield Town Foundation at St George’s Park. The effort, commitment and togetherness they showed throughout the tournament perfectly reflects what our Walking Football programme is all about.
“To see our players take to the pitch at the home of English football, representing the Kirklees Parkinson’s community with such pride, was a truly special moment. This experience highlights the power of football to inspire, connect people and support physical and mental wellbeing.”
The Foundation also extends its sincere thanks to the Huddersfield Parkinson’s Local Group for their generous £1,000 donation towards the Walking Football programme. This support will play a vital role in sustaining existing sessions and enabling further development in the future.
