Huddersfield Town Foundation serves three million breakfasts to local school children

7 Nov 2025

Huddersfield Town Foundation has served its three millionth breakfast to school children in Kirklees through its flagship Early Kick Off Breakfast Clubs initiative.

The Breakfast Clubs provide primary school children from all backgrounds the opportunity to access a healthy meal before the start of their school day.

Launched in 2012, Huddersfield Town Foundation initially served breakfasts to five schools in Huddersfield. Today, the Foundation provides breakfasts to 29 schools across Kirklees.

Huddersfield Town Foundation CEO Sam Dainty said:

“We are incredibly proud to have served three million breakfasts to local school children,

“Our Breakfast Clubs have made a positive impact on schools, enabling children from all backgrounds to thrive through the use of proper nutrition before a day of studying.”

Hillside Primary School was one of the first schools to benefit from the scheme, with all pupils from the school now eligible to receive a free breakfast.

Hillside Primary School Designated Safeguarding Lead and Attendance Officer Jill Mellor said:

“We couldn’t afford to do the Breakfast Clubs without the support of Huddersfield Town.

“We were one of the first schools to take part in the Breakfast Clubs scheme when it was introduced. We initially served free breakfasts for 30 school children, now we have more than 200 children eating breakfasts a day.”

Huddersfield Town Club Ambassador Andy Booth, and beloved mascot Terry the Terrier, paid Hillside a special visit to celebrate the Foundation’s achievement.

Andy, a club legend of Huddersfield Town with 427 playing appearances, attended the first-ever Breakfast Club back in 2012 and is proud to have seen the Foundation reach the three million milestone.

Andy said: “It’s an unbelievable achievement.”

“When we served our first breakfast in 2012 you would never have thought 13 years later we would be stood here having served three million.

“I know a lot of football clubs do incredible work for their communities but for Huddersfield Town and the Foundation to have achieved this, it’s a tribute to everybody who has been involved with the Breakfast Clubs over the years.”

Sam Dainty paid tribute to the Huddersfield Town fans and those who have fundraised for Huddersfield Town Foundation.

“Our work would not be possible without the support of Huddersfield Town fans and their incredible fundraising efforts for our charity,” Sam said.

“On behalf of Huddersfield Town Foundation, I would like to thank the fans and everyone who has supported us in being able to continue our work within our Town.”
