Premier League Inspires

What is Premier League Inspires?

Premier League Inspires is a personal development programme, developed by the Premier League and professional football clubs, and supported by the Professional Footballers' Association (PFA).

Launched in 2019, the programme uses the power of football to inspire young people aged 11-18 at risk of not reaching their potential, to develop the personal skills and positive attitudes needed to succeed in life.

Premier League Inspires empowers participants to develop personal, social, employability and life-skills, through a series of regular face-to-face group sessions, mentoring, workshops and social-action projects, providing pupils with the help they need now and supporting them to plan for their future.

Huddersfield Town Foundation began its Premier League Inspires delivery in 2019 and since then has supported young people through 1-1 or small group mentoring sessions within local schools, whilst also hosting regional events at the John Smith Stadium.

More than 29,000 young people have benefitted from their involvement in Premier League Inspires to date.

We delivery the programme in secondary schools in Kirklees. All of our staff either hold or are working towards their Level 2 in Mentoring or Youth Work.

Premier League Inspires Objectives

Through Premier League Inspires delivery, we aim to:

  • support young people to improve their wellbeing.

  • develop young people's character and life-skills.

  • help schools keep pupils present and committed.

  • provide young people with access to more opportunities.

  • enable young people to plan for the future and be work ready.

HOW WE HELP

The Huddersfield Town Foundation can support your school in the following ways with Premier League Inspires;

Working with a group of 6-8 KS3 students who have been identified by the school as requiring extra support. Across a full term, the workshops would focus on topics such as Resilience, Confidence & Self Esteem, Mental Health & Wellbeing, Employability & Enterprise and Managing Emotions.

Again, working with targeted children identified by the school, our HTF mentors would work with these individuals in 1-1 sessions. These could be structured in various ways, from drop in sessions to check on their wellbeing, or 30-45 minute sessions working on similar topics listed above.

Funding from the Premier League and Premier League Charitable Fund's partners also supports youth social action through the annual Premier League Inspires Challenge.

The Challenge helps young people to learn about some of the challenges facing their football club and community, exploring ways to overcome these issues.

During Season 2023/24 clubs looked at mental health, as part of the Premier League's Inside Matters campaign. For the 2024/25 season, the focus for the challenge is Gender Equality.

Whether it’s the football pitch, the dugout, the classroom, or even the courtroom where their dreams lie, the Premier League Changemakers programme is opening doors for the next generation of young women and girls to realise their potential.

Premier League Changemakers supports young women by inspiring, empowering and equipping them with the tools to develop a positive attitude towards leadership.

Running alongside their studies, PL Changemakers has ensured that more than 1,200 young women and girls have been able to access leadership training as well as sports and physical activities since its launch in 2021.
