Premier League Primary Stars

What is Premier League Primary Stars?

The Premier League Primary Stars programme uses the positive influence of the Premier League and professional football to engage both pupils and teachers across all subject areas.

Launched in 2017, and available to every primary school in England and Wales, Huddersfield Town Foundation is one of more than 100 professional football club community organisations across England and Wales delivering Premier League Primary Stars, supporting pupils in the classroom, the playground and on the sports field. More than 18 million children have benefited from the national
programme to date. Premier League Primary Stars enables teachers to use resources across English, PSHE, PE and Maths, to support children to develop skills and values that are crucial to success in later life.

Huddersfield Town Foundation began its Premier League Primary Stars delivery in 2017 and since then has supported thousands of pupils and teachers in over 30 schools.

Available to primary schools across Kirklees, Wakefield, and Calderdale, the programme inspires children aged five to 11 to learn, be active and develop important life skills, in the classroom, the playground, and on the sports field. Teaching resources cover subjects from English, Maths, PE, and PSHE, with free curriculum-linked worksheets and lesson plans.

All of our coaches either hold or are working towards their AfPE Level 3 certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Physical Education. All lesson plans and resources are designed in line with the National Curriculum and in conjunction with professionals such as qualified teachers and authors.

HOW WE HELP

The Huddersfield Town Foundation can support your school in the following ways with Premier League Primary Stars;

    Part of the Premier League Primary Stars programme is an extended six week intervention, designed by the National Literacy Trust to stimulate English engagement in children who lack motivation in reading.

    Programme evaluation has shown this significantly impacts academic achievement as well as pupils’ attitudes towards reading, particularly those receiving free school meals.

    We offer a six-week Maths intervention programme for disengaged or low-ability pupils. This curriculum-aligned initiative includes football related Active Maths sessions and Premier League workbook resources.

    We deliver several PSHE interventions designed to promote a positive mental attitude and healthy lifestyles for primary school children.

    These include:

    • Emotional wellbeing 1:1 mentoring

    • Confidence building

    • Friendship and resilience workshops

    • Understanding British values

    • Anti-racism

    • Anti-bullying

    • Black history

THE FOUR PRIMARY VALUES

Premier League Primary Stars has four primary values which pupils are encouraged to work towards in their learning. Pupils who demonstrate these values can be rewarded with stickers, certificates and even matchday tickets;

  • Be ambitious: work hard and never give up on your goals

  • Be inspiring: set a great example to others

  • Be connected: work well with others and as part of a team

  • Be fair: treat people equally and think of others

  • "The Premier League Primary Stars programme has positively impacted my pupils because they have had the opportunity to train with a professional coach. As a result, my pupils (even those who find PE challenging) have thoroughly enjoyed taking part in different activities and developing their skills."
